EARTH BOWLS

Working with glazes that are often bespoke and hand-mixed in the studio, Nicola's EARTH BOWLS use glaze like a free form of painting to capture patterns of the Earth's strata, where land meets sea.

The connection with the natural world intensifies when a piece is glazed. There is an alchemy that takes place in the kiln when the unique combinations of glazes develop together, the resulting colours and patterns evoking seascapes and landscapes, or an aerial view of the earth where land meets sea with shapes and colours that have been formed over the millennia. Channelling these inspirations into striking, contemporary glazes is key to Nicola's process.

Participation in a turtle conservation project in Costa Rica some years ago, as well as a heightened awareness of the importance of conservation today, form the inspiration behind Nicola's EARTH BOWLS.

INTO THE WAVE
The shape and form of 'Into the Wave' were purposely created to look like a wave, evoking the patterns and effects created by the movement of the water.
