Nicola’s stoneware vessels have become a canvas onto which she ‘paints’ abstract images inspired by aerial landscapes. Her signature “Earth Bowls” are created using a pouring technique, applying glazes in a free and intuitive way, creating patterns and effects that resemble the Earth’s surface as seen from above.

There is an alchemy that takes place in the kiln when the unique combinations of glazes develop together, the resulting colours and patterns evoking seascapes and landscapes. 

 

The finished pieces express her awareness of the fragility of our Earth and form a visual record of its beauty.
